A native of
Dayton, Ohio, Steve began his musical career playing piano
at age three. In his formative years of classical study, he
was honored with numerous awards. While exploring various
types of music, he was strongly influenced by the music of
jazz masters Josef Zawinul, McCoy Tyner,
Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, and Red Garland.
His openness and awareness to all kinds of music, combined
with heavy jazz and classical influence, laid the foundation
for the well rounded, extremely gifted musician he is today.
In 1984 Steve was awarded a full scholarship at the
Cincinnati Conservatory of Music to further his study of
jazz. It was during this period that Steve's writing and
playing abilities were brought to the forefront.
His mastery of
the keyboard and programming expertise quickly thrust him
into the thick of the Cincinnati music scene. In 1994, Steve
decided on a change of scenery and moved to Los Angeles CA,
where he has found his way with many new musical
experiences. Steve is now based in Burbank, California, and
along with his busy local playing schedule, he is touring
worldwide with the Dave Weckl Band, El Grupo,
and many others.
In addition to
playing and writing as a sideman, Steve has a solo CD
entitled Life Times. With the exception of the final piece
written by Steve's wife, Renee, this jazz/funk/world CD is
self-written, produced and engineered. Steve and his band
performed the music of Life Times recently in Los Angeles to
wide critical acclaim.
