drumFantasy.07

This Summer, Dave is taking part in a unique event that will allow drummers of all levels and backgrounds to learn and be inspired by the best. He will join Steve Smith, Horacio "el negro" Hernandez, and a fourth drummer to-be-named at the first "fantasy camp" for drummers.

It's all happening Friday, August 17, through Tuesday, August 21, 2007, at Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey (just 15 miles from New York City).

Attendees will have the opportunity to attend clinics, master classes and concerts with each of the drumming instructors. New York's top drumming school, The Collective, will be offering classes as well, and Dave's soundman and marketing manager will also be on-hand to help musicians go beyond just the drums.

Thinking about going?
Please note that the "Fantasy Packages," which include small master classes, are limited in size. All packages are discounted $50 when you register before May 28, 2007. Click here to learn more.

"What makes this event so inviting is that you don't have to be a high-level drummer or spend a lot of money to attend and feel comfortable" says Steven Orkin, director of the camp. "There are one-day and weekend-long packages, plus an option to stay Monday and Tuesday for more intimate master classes."

All registrations include tickets to the nighttime concerts - which promise to be special. Each instructor is scheduled to perform, and even the students will get to play if they stay for the Monday/Tuesday sessions.

How did this idea come about?

Orkin explains "in working with Dave and Steve the past few years, I have fielded numerous requests for lessons, classes, and concerts. These are busy working musicians and such opportunities can be rare. drumFantasy.07 is an opportunity for drummers/fans to learn, be entertained, and hang out with some of the world's finest drummers."

What's on tap for the camp?

Orkin says that the camp will open with a blow-out concert on Friday night. The bands haven't been finalized yet, but each drummer is working on a lineup for the entertainment, which is to be held at Seton Hall University's Jubilee Hall.

Saturday and Sunday will feature all-day clinics with the drumming instructors. Attendees will be assigned to a group, which will move from class-to-class so that everyone gets to work with each drummer.

On Sunday night, "fantasy package" attendees will get to jam in front of the camp at a special "jam night." Monday and Tuesday will feature small master classes with just 15 students to a room - garnering REAL face time with the instructors.

Who is coming?

So far, registrants include working drummers, weekend players, high school and college drummers/percussionists, drum/percussion teachers, young drummers attending with their parents, and plenty of "aficionados" who only pick up the sticks now and again.
